$18,900 to invest into coffeeshop #2 in North or Northeast Portland. Getting started early.
Monday, January 31, 2011
Day 20- $20,000
$2000 to Schoolhouse Supplies a local charity
$18,000 will get us an around-the-world vacation to include paragliding in the alps, visiting Spain again, dancing in germany, meditating in Thailand, skydiving in Australia, and doing falling in love in France. We'll do the world right :)
Day 19- $19,000
$1900 to Kickstarter.org for more grants to artistic creative people.
Okay, let's see. I have a home, a healthy business, business coach, fitness coach, furniture, a coffee roaster, clothing, and just about everything a person could want and then some but let's see what else we can spend this money on...
Well, let's get an espresso van that we can take to events like festivals and Sunday Parkways events and fill it with the best equipment for the remaining $17,100 and get some fun times out of that:)
Day 18- $18,000
$1800 to Dress For Success
For the remaining $16,200 I can open a drive thru coffee stand in Vancouver and fill it with the top of the line equipment and start making more money that way.
I love business!
Day 17- $17,000
$1700 to Friends of Zenger Farm which is a farm camp for kids here in Portland. It looks really fun and practical.
$5000 to have a party for Grandma which would cover travel costs for everybody to get here to spend time with her and be all together.
$7000 for a new team of horses for my dad since his business is getting so busy.
$300 for a pilates gym membership
$3000 for landscaping of the yard and garden and new planter boxes and yard toys.
Day 16- $16,000
$1600 going to the Forrest Park Conservancy. This is one of the biggest city parks in the country and it's right in our back yard. I love the trails and hiking and all the trees that are right here for us Portlanders to enjoy:)
Now that I've bought the house it's time to furnish it.
So...
$3000 for a dining room set
$1000 for a dining room sideboard
$7000 for a bedroom set
$500 new paint colors
$1900 hutch
$2000 lighting
Monday, January 24, 2011
Day 15- $15,000
Today the $1500 will go to Urban Gleaners who come and pick up edible food items that are being thrown out at restaurants and supermarkets.
I think that I will take the remaining $13,500 and use it as a down payment on one the of $135,000 houses that Trevor and I have been looking at. OWN MY OWN HOME: SUCCESS!!! Payments are very close to what we are paying in rent right now.
Day 14- $14,000
Today I would like to give $1400 to JOIN, a local organization. They used to be located right across from the coffee shop and their employees were some of the first supporters of our business. Very nice people and we really enjoyed having them around. The good news is that they expanded and got a bigger better facility, the bad news was that it isn't close the cafe any longer. This donation is in appreciation of their wonderful employees.
My parents have a hot tub in a hot tub room at their new house, but it is not in working order. I would like to get them a new hot tub and pay someone to get the space working. They also have a yucky plastic wall that would be much nicer if replaced with windows. From my estimation, I think that this all can be done with $7000 and done well! They will love to have one more project checked off of their list, but I will love to have it available for use!
Trevor has a lot of space out at his studio that he would like to put a green house on so that he can start growing vegetables for me at the coffee shop and for home. I have found some kits for about $5000 but know that he would build it himself. So I'll still spend the $5000 and that will leave extra for seed and lights for the starts.
My Mom called today to see if I would go get a pedicure with her. I will pay for the pedicures and manicures. That will be $200.
Then I will see if Autumn or Jessica want to go our for drinks and a movie tonight since I have already done my yoga. $100.
The last $300 will be spent on this month's artist at the coffee shop. I'll buy $300 worth of painting then raffle them off and she will be sold out.
Saturday, January 22, 2011
Day 13- $13,000
I know that I've already given money to kiva.org but I am going to give another $1300 today because I think that entrepreneurs really deserve the opportunity to take out loans to expand their business.
My parent have been talking about putting in a bar in their new house ever since they moved in. They have parties and get-togethers all the time so I know that they'd get good use out of it. They just don't have the money to do with all that they spent on the fireplace so I'd like to get that done for them ($6000).
I ran into Melissa last night and was reminded of what a positive influence she has been on me in my life. I really have always appreciated her energy. She is a very healthy person so I would like to get her a $500 gift card to New Seasons so she can stock up and share delicious food.
Jessica loves going to concerts and it only take an evening for a nice treat for her so I'll spend $200 on concert tickets, dinner and drinks to have a nice night with my best girl friend.
I still haven't sent thank you cards to Angela, Curtis and the boys or to Steve and Zoe from Hawaii for our amazing New Year Hawaiian experience so I would like to make up a nice Oregon gift basket with hazelnuts, coffee, wine, beer, books and other fun trinkets to send up to them to show our appreciation for their kindness. ($600)
I have been meaning to help Dad market his stagecoach for so long and haven't gotten around to it. I know that there are people who might do a better more focused job any way so I will hire a marketing manager to help with his business and really bring more people in when spring hits. This is a great time to get started right now anyway with it being the slow time. ($3000)
Benjamin is moving back up from Alabama and wants to go snowboarding so I'll take and buy tickets for whoever wants to go with us! Yay family fun time on the mountain! One of my favorite things to do. ($500)
I feel bad because I didn't send a thank you or anything to Aunt Jeanne for all the wonderful presents that she go me this season so I will at least return the favor of the Nature Conservatory in her honor. ($200)
Since I love my family so much I would like to make up a little Oregon care package for them and send it out. Fun things like coffee, wine and hazelnuts. Maybe a reusable coffee cup. $100 each for: Uncle Bruce, Robin and fam, Aunt Rita, Aunt Bunny, Jennifer, Stephanie, and Gina, Amanda and Emily.
Feels good to give!

Day 12- $12,000
Wow! It's getting really hard to spend this money. I feel like I already have everything that I need and want and then some. I have 9 more days of this? Geesh.
Let's get started with $1200 going to Save The Sea Turtles in Costa Rica. They are such gorgeous creatures.
I guess I will buy some more clothes- some eco friendly materials like hemp and bamboo. Yoga gear and what not. Good comfortable clothes to wear at the coffee shop. ($1000)
I also think it's very important to have supported feet so I'll buy 4 or 5 pair of solid shoes- like Danskos. $500
We haven't bought our tickets to Miami yet so I'll go ahead and get those booked now ($600) and while I'm at it I'll book our after Miami adventure to the Bahamas where we can unwind from all the hard work we put in at Winter Music Conference :) Nice peaceful ocean breezes, lounging in a hammock, soaking up the sun- sounds wonderful. $4500 all inclusive trip for 2 with my love.
Last but not least, the remaining $4200 is going to either Chenoa or Summer to run the shop for me for 2 months while I go on some intensive workshops to get my next business up and running and take some time for myself to hopefully enjoy Hawaii again and know that I don't need to be there. I'll take lots of photos and bring gifts back :)

Day 11- $11,000
I am so adamant about the health of people and our environment that I can't stand to see people smoking tobacco. I'm going to donate $1100 to The Foundation for a Smoke Free America.

Today I am going to get quite a few little things since yesterday I made a large purchase.
First I'm going to spend $300 on a Wii and some games for Trevor and I.
Next I'm going to commission Moonrok for a photo shoot with group shots of all the staff at Southeast Grind as well as location and food photos. I'm also going to spend about $500 on uniforms for the shot and accessories for the photos. I'll pay Moonrok $500.
Also for the shop I would like to commission an artist to make a mural on the West side of the building that's a collage/ mandala/ coffee themed piece. That will be at least $1000.
I would love it if we had a compost bin in our back yard and some nice potters to be growing herbs and things in so I'll spend $400 and the hardware and garden store and make the compost bin with Trevor.
Finally time to purchase my favorite piece of furniture in the world! Eero Serrinen Womb Chair and ottoman. I have always wanted this chair and finally have the money to drop $3000 on the original design from Hive in the blue color.
It's also time to get a new snowboard and bindings so that will take $500.
I also think it's a great idea to get a holistic personal trainer and nutritionist which will be about $1000.
Now that I know we will be getting a house in the next year I would like to have Jessica back over to do more organizing and find more storage furniture and spend $1500 for her time and materials.
That leaves $1200. Since Trevor has never been to Las Vegas I think it would be fun to take a quick trip down for a night and see a Cirque Du Soleil show and get a fancy meal and fancy hotel so stay in.

Day 10- $10,000
Today's theme is coffee. The donation money is going to an organization called coffeekids.org which is a part of Grounds For Hope. They work to improve the lives of children of the workers on coffee farms.
Next with the remaining $9000 I am going to get a commercial coffee roaster so that we can start sourcing green beans and roasting them ourselves!
Tuesday, January 18, 2011
Day 9- $9000
Day 9's donations go to: Cascade Aids Project (CAP) ($900)
I am having so much fun dj'ing right now that I would like to spend about $500 on new music, both digital and vinyl and that will inspire me to record and share a new dj mix.
Since I just had this great retreat to clarify my vision for the online business I would now like to work with an internet marketing coach to get the ball rolling and get monies coming in! ($5000)
Now that I am feeling empowered and new I would like a new wardrobe so I'm going to take $2500 to go on a shopping spree with Jessica and Lupe. That will be fun for them too because I will buy them things too.
The last $100 will be to get my nails done. I've always wanted pretty long nails so I'll go to a very nice salon and just go ahead and get them done proper.
Day 8- $8000
Today I am going to give $800 to Friends of Trees. They plant so many trees and their mission is so simple. Love them!
This is something that I've always wanted to do and I am going to do it right. I'm going to spend quite a bit of money on this because it's really worth it. I am going to create my own 5 day retreat. I'm going to rent a cabin somewhere in some beautiful nature- possible Breightenbush and create my own personal retreat. Starting with healthy food and yoga and meditation sessions. I am also going to write a list of goals and things that I would like to accomplish then find the right practitioners to meet with me while on the retreat. The goal will be clarity of my career vision. It may include meeting with a life coach, business coach, and EFT practitioner a couple times to clear things out. Also I'll have a massage and reflexology. Even possible a copy writer or an editor to edit what I create. I hope to walk away from the retreat feeling revived, inspired, accomplished and ready to take on the world. My vision for the consulting/ online piece of my business will also be clearly defined and in motion. This is really the most exciting thing that I can think of doing with my time!

Day 7- $7000

Today is the 7th day and the first bit of donation money is going to a local charity called Growing Gardens. They help low income and elderly people set up gardens in their yards so that they have fresh produce and a healthy outdoor activity to keep them busy.
Today is going to be about celebration!
1st I would like to host a celebratory event for all of my staff. I so appreciate their help and support and they are just all great people. We never get to all hang out together so I need to pay somebody to work while we are all away. That will cost about $150. We've talked about roller skating at Oaks Park before so we can all go do that ($300). Then we can go out to a fun bar and play games, get some food or drink ($300).
I have always wanted to take my Mom to the Kentucky Derby if I had the money. I remember being a little girl and going to the horse races with her. She loves the races. So with $5000 we can have a fabulous trip with a nice hotel and fancy dinners, even some shopping while we are there. It will be a great time!
Next I would like to celebrate with my Ryla team. Most importantly I would just like to get together with them all. I think that East Burn would be a fun place to meet up and play some games, get food and drink and I can open a tab for everybody!
Yay for the wonderful people in my life! I am so very grateful!

Day 6- $6000
First off- Donations. I love that I've already decided to donate the first 10% of all monies to different charities. I don't even miss the money that's already spent and it's building the community that I live in. Today I'd like to give $600 to the Start Making A Reader Today program in Oregon. They promote literacy by pairing a mentor with a grade schooler to meet once a week and read books. Great organization. This year I am a reader and really enjoy my time with two second graders.
I found a smoking deal on tickets to Hawaii so I am going to buy Trevor and I tickets to Maui. My Aunt has a condo that she's at every 5 weeks and there has always been an open invitation to stay with her. Finally time to cash in on the offer. The tickets can be used through May 2011.
I network with a great interior designer and I would like to give her the business of redesigning my office at Southeast Grind. I've budgeted $1500 for services and furniture.
The restaurant next door to the cafe has a great outdoor patio and just went up for lease. I'd like to spend the last $3200 on the equipment that we would need to extend into that place. It is a great venue for events and overflow space. We can easily fill out the patio in the summer time and can also offer hookah. Since Trevor and I already have a sound system we can set it up there and continue to do night club events. It also has a full kitchen so I can do my baking and cooking for Southeast Grind and walk it right over.

Day 5- $5000
So much money to spend! Geesh I feel like it's coming out of my eyeballs here.
One of my favorite ways to give is through kiva.org. This is a site where business owners from all over the world, specifically in developing nations, apply for a micro loan to boost up their business. They pay everything back and they update their site to show you what progress they have made with the loan money. The funny thing is that they have a higher repayment rate than Americans do. I love the idea of helping those who are already helping themselves and today I'm going to give $500 in loans out on kiva.org.
Secondly I'm going to equip my kitchen for eating more raw foods and get a vitamix blender, a food dehydrator and a food processor. I already have a juicer so now I have everything that I need to make delicious, organic, raw, healthy meals for myself and for friends. All that gear costs about $600.
I enjoy spending time with my mom and a couple of our favorite things to do are going to the spa, going to a book store and eating out at some of our favorite restaurants. I'm going to get us a spa day package for two at Dragon Tree Spa, our favorite spa here in town. Then we will go have a nice meal at Papa Hayden's restaurant in NW on 23rd then we can go down to Powell's Books in the Pearl and browse and shop for books. That's $900.
In order to get rid of the last $3000 for the day I'm going to take Trevor down to Platinum Records where we can load up on gear and vinyl. There is plenty of back stock of records that we could shop for, a new mixer for home, extra sets of needles, we could use a couple pin lights for parties and maybe even another disco ball.
This feels like a completely decedent day! Wow!
Day 4- $4000
Day 4 it is. $4000. 10% of the top going to charity. Today the $400 will go to the City Repair Project here in Portland. They do a great job of building community and sustainability. One of my favorite projects that they do is the Share-It-Square in Sellwood. I am super thankful for their presence.
I am trying not to spend money on my business and use this as a personal exercise but it's hard. If I had this kind of cash I think that I would just invest it into my coffee shop. Well, I know. I will spend $1000 to have someone sell the log furniture for me so that I can free up that extra cash to use on my business. That's a great personal thing to do for myself.
I can't think of any 'stuff' that I want but I do want to improve the person that I am being so the only thing that I can think to do with $2600 is to get a coach who can help me get to my goals faster than what I could do myself. That's about 8 sessions with a good coach that would help me make huge strides. Yep. Money well spent :)
Wednesday, January 12, 2011
Day 3- $3000
Well I had already spent the $800 from yesterday to pay off the couch so my mind was thinking about this one all night. Right away my couch got paid off and I'm happy about that. I would like to refurnish the whole house but this duplex is not where I'm going to be living for long hopefully so I don't want to get furniture specifically for this. I know that I'll want a womb chair soon though.
The second check is going to be for $500 to kickstarter.com to help others that are helping themselves. I think it's really cool all the work that they put into their projects and I like to fund creative, ambitious people so I'm going to go log on and pick a few to give at least $100 each to.
I am also collecting the entire Robsoul Recordings collection so I can order catalogue #'s 25-60 which are some smoking hits!

Then I went to Dania and got some nice storage furniture and tables for home!
Tuesday, January 11, 2011
Day 2- $2000

I am having a harder time thinking of things to spend the money on today and it's only day 2. I think that I will start by paying Jessica $500 to help me organize my house. That will give me a clean slate to work from and I am really interested in how the physical surroundings and your mental state are tied together.
Secondly I'm going to pre-pay $500 for 3 months worth of yoga at the Bhatki Shop by my house because that's my favorite local yoga place and I would like to be able to go there and clear my mind whenever I want to. I think that will help with clarity and success as well.
Next I am putting $700 down on a couch that I really like that is gray microfiber. I'll pay the other $800 tomorrow so that we have a kickin' clean couch in the living room! I love it!
And the last $300 is going on a gift certificate to New Seasons so that I can eat as much fresh local produce as I want.
Day 1- $1000
On this first day I started out by donating $1000 to the William Temple House. I am so appreciative of the help that they gave me when I was so in need of it. Their low cost/ free counseling services really aided me in getting healthy. My best friend Jessica is also using their counseling services through a really difficult time and I can see the social impact that it has on our community. I'm really thankful that they are here in town and want to see them stay. I'd also like to start this game out on the right foot by donating the whole day's cash.
